U.S. Treasury blacklists Qatari and Yemeni nationals as al Qaeda financiers

The U.S. Treasury Department on Wednesday blacklisted alleged terrorism financiers in Qatar and Yemen, accusing them of funding al Qaeda and affiliated groups in the Middle East and Africa. Treasury said Abd al-Rahman bin Umayr al-Nu'aymi and Abd al-Wahhab Muhammad Abd al-Rahman al-Humayqani both are "at the center of global support networks that fund and facilitate terrorism" and labeled them "Specially Designated Global Terrorists." Any assets the men have under U.S. jurisdiction are frozen and U.S. persons are prohibited from doing business with them. Nu'aymi, a 63-year-old based in Qatar, has provided financial support to al Qaeda, Asbat al-Ansar, al Qaeda in Iraq, and al-Shabaab, Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said. It added that Humayqani, a 41-year-old who is based in Yemen and uses a charity as a front, has provided financial support to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
