Corrupt money hides in Dubai, while officials turn blind eye, says politician

Corrupt money stolen in the Magnitsky scandal in Russia and looted from Kabul Bank in Afghanistan is sitting in Dubai and yet international authorities have failed to call out the United Arab Emirates, a leading French politician said on Wednesday. Eva Joly, a former magistrate famed for exposing high-level political and business corruption in France, said international officials should demand the money back and the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development should place UAE on its black list of countries failing to enforce money laundering laws. "This is a shame, and we cannot live with it," said Joly, a member of the European Parliament who was named to the anti-graft body backed by the United Nations to monitor corruption in Afghanistan. "I cannot understand why the OECD blacklist is empty.
