Canada imposes additional sanctions on Ukranian, Russian entities

The Government of Canada has imposed an asset freeze on designated persons and entities related to Ukraine and Russia, including Russian financial institution Bank Rossiya, a Crimean oil and gas company, and two senior Crimean electoral officials. "We remain steadfast in our support for Ukraine and will continue to work with allies and like-minded countries to apply pressure to Russia until it de-escalates the situation in Ukraine," Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said in a recent statement. "Canada and its allies are prepared to take additional steps that will further isolate Russia economically and politically." The sanctions, enacted in accordance with the Special Economic Measures Act, prevent persons in Canada and Canadians abroad from: Dealing in any property held by or on behalf of a designated person, or facilitating or providing financial or other related services in respect of such a dealing; Making any goods available to a designated person; and Providing any
